strawberry season

June 24, 2009 · 2 Comments

Strawberries mark the start of summer and provoke Pavlovian dog style anticipation but, as in so many years, the first pickings had very disappointing flavour. Just as I was despairing and the first complaints started arriving, the flavour developed (no one knows why) and I am confident this will Strawberries close upimprove further as we get into the main season.

I think early strawberries lack flavour if there is lots of rain but little real sun and warmth. Only a guess but maybe that is why the flavour has developed.

The flavour has certainly developed – the last bunch were gorgeous, and the cream that came with them a huge treat. thanks!
