When the children were young we had a smallholding and grew all our own vegetables. We were part of the John Seymour movement and I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it was VERY hard work. I am more than happy to leave it all
to Riverford these days who do a fantastic job! I actually feel guilty at times because they have all the worries of the vagaries of the seasons, pests and so on. The quality and freshness is second to none. Well done.

I planted an apple tree this spring and made an attempt at growing a few veg.Tomatoes aren’t doing too badly but the french beans got munched by something! I picked some of my own potatoes for the first time this week.It feels amazing and very rewarding.The veg boxes from Riverford are an inspiration as they’re so tasty and fresh.

I enjoyed growing vegetables and think I will get back to it, I liked to grow the veg that were expensive and, before my Riverford days, veg that were just not the same quality when bought from a super market like fresh garden peas and runner beans and little tom thumb lettuces that you can eat in one meal!!

I grow my own, but unless I had an allotment and the time, my efforts are only going to supplement my riverford box. I also change my box and have recently created my ‘own’ box by choosing the veg/salads that i don’t have a glut of. But mostly I grow my own herbs. I also grow potatoes but will only get enough to not need riverford potatoes for a few weeks. I have also planted two dwarf trees for extra blueberries and redcurrents as I love them from riverford but again my garden is not large enough to supply much fruit.

This is the first year I’ve grown my own veg in pots. This is on a very small scale, lettuce leaf and tomatoes are in abundance my potatoes are later cropping and apart from herbs there’s nothing much else to eat yet. Next year I hope to have raised beds and will be able to plant more.

I like having a few salad greens growing as it’s nice to have these fresh and on hand everyday and we get through masses in the summer. This year I bought a batch of mixed leaves from the garden centre which I keep in a very large plant pot by the back door ( in an effort to stop the foxes using them as a toilet!) I love the tasty salad packs we get in the veg box. If you were thinking of selling a growing, mixed baby leaf version I would be very happy.
I don’t think my gardening efforts are ever going to replace my weekly box – not unless they become a bit more successful and I spend a lot more time in the garden.

Grow your own probably a “fashion”. It costs quite a bit for seeds feed etc. then you get a glut which means a lot of work preparing the over flow for he freezer. I grew my own tomatoes. Bought a growbag ,feed etc. Then gallons of water went through my meter to keep them happy. Very costly. Ill stick with Riverford.

I have a small town garden and grow lots of different veg in pots, broad beans do very nicely! I do still need alternate fruit/ mini veg boxes. no need to shop!I like that.

We’ve been enjoying your salad box alongside allotment salads the last month – your tomatoes and cucumbers, of course, well ahead of ours and mixing your lettuce and our home grown. (Your lettuce had the edge in flavour, we must admit, until July when suddenly our salad leaves started to taste like lettuce). Looking forward to visiting Riverford Kitchen and the shop in Totnes on our annual camping holiday in August – so we do continue to enjoy your produce even when we are away! Happy hols…

Yes I grow a few veg & herbs, but I still need my Riverford boxes sometimes larger, sometimes smaller! If you do get doubled up on your produce – beans, peas, courgettes maybe, then freeze them, bottle them, turn them into chutneys or soups for the leaner months.
